It is very common for people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) diagnosis to experience problem with sleep (although to a varying degree of difficulty sleeping).
Common symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Difficulty falling and/or staying asleep
- Nightmares (due to intrusive memories/ emotional distress)
- Fears about going to sleep
- Sensitive to sounds
- May sleep more during the day due to the lack of sleep, leading to greater difficulties falling asleep at night.
Cause of Sleep Problems
Sleep problems among people with PTSD may also be the result of experiencing frequent symptoms of hyperarousal.
