Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – Sleep Interruptions and Chronic Fatigue
You may be suffering from the following symptoms of PTSD:
- Difficulty falling and/or staying asleep
- Nightmares (due to intrusive memories/ emotional distress)
- Fears about going to sleep
- Sensitive to sounds
- May sleep more during the day due to the lack of sleep, leading to greater difficulties falling asleep at night.
Cause of Chronic Fatigue & Sleep Problems amongst PTSD sufferers
Sleep problems among people with PTSD may also be the result of experiencing frequent symptoms of hyperarousal.
There is also evidence that prolonged unresolved trauma (commonly experienced by PTSD sufferers) may overtime lead to neuroendocrine dysfunction, which manifests as chronic fatigue symptoms.
